Mexican Rice with Beans

Serves: 4


  • 2 Cups Brown Rice –You can use any long grain rice
  • 1 Cup Boiled Red Beans(Rajma) – You can use canned beans too(Just drain water)
  • ½ Cup Onion – Finely Chopped
  • 1 Can Tomato Sauce – You can use fresh or canned tomato
  • 3 Cloves Garlic – Finely Chopped
  • 1 Jalapeño Finely Chopped
  • 3 Cups Water
  • Juice of One Lemon
  • 3 Tbsp. Olive Oil – Any Flavorless oil
  • 2 Tsp Salt (As per taste)
  • 1 Tsp Red Chili Powder 
  • ¼ Tsp Crushed Black Pepper
  • 1 Tsp Mexican Seasoning (Optional)– For some extra flavor.
  • 1 Tbsp Tabasco Sauce(Optional) – You can use any pepper based light texture sauce like Tapato/Cholula/Etc



  1. In a large pot, heat oil for a minute.
  2. Turn heat to medium, add chopped onion, jalapeño and sauté for a minute (The onions would turn slight brown).
  3. Now, add rice, garlic and sauté for about 3mins (Till rice looks golden caramelized brown).
  4. Add tomato sauce and sauté for another minute.
  5. Now, add seasoning, beans, water, stir everything and cover the pot for
    the rice to cook for about 10-15mins.
  6. Once the rice is cooked, sprinkle lemon juice and fluff the rice evenly.
  7. Optional Step – Sprinkle tabasco and taco seasoning on top
  8. Transfer in serving bowls/plates and Serve Hot/Warm.
