The Bottle Gourd is known to have originated in Africa and made its way into tropical parts of Asia. It is heavily grown in India, China, Thailand, Myanmar, Philippines, Egypt etc. One gets a feeling of relaxation after consuming it because it is light and low in calories. It can be used in Curries, Soups, Chutneys etc. Bottle gourd should NOT BE eaten in a raw state in form of juice or Salads and MUST BE cooked for eating or Juicing.

Interesting Tidbits: In India, dried Opo squash (matured for a long time) has long been used to make the base of musical instruments such as the sitar. In the Hindu faith dried Opo gourd is used as a vessel in ceremonies and called the kamandalu.
